The Institute is providing all kinds of clinical services including outpatient, inpatient, emergency and liaison services, forensic psychiatric services and the community mental health services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Outpatient Services<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">OPD service is provided 6 days a week. One consultant and 4 PG Trainees are responsible for each OPD day and on an average more than 100 patients are seen on each OPD day. The catchments area of Institute of Psychiatry includes the districts of Quetta, Pishin, Zhob, Khuzdar and Kadhar Afghanistan. The record of every patient is maintained in OPD register.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">Inpatient Services<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Institute of Psychiatry is a 100-bedded unit, which is divided into a male ward, a female ward and a forensic unit. There are separate units for occupational therapy and ECT.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Following services are provided in wards:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Daily Psychiatric Examination<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Daily Medication<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Psychological Counseling<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Social Services<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Daily Meal<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">Psychiatric Emergencies &amp; Liaison Referrals<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Institute also provides the services for the liaison cases from other departments of all the hospitals affiliated with Bolan Medical College and it also looks after the patients referred through emergency department for psychiatry evaluation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">Neuropsychiatric Facilities<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Institute is well equipped with the facilities of electro-convulsive therapy (ECT) and electro-encephalography (EEG).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">Forensic Services<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Forensic services mean the provision of mental health care facilities to the prisoners of Quetta Central Jail, Much Jail:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">1- By a medical officer in the prison on regular basis after every two weeks when he visits the jail and examines all the prisoners with psychiatric complaints.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">2- By a consultant when he is asked to examine a prisoner in the jail by a court and to give opinion<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">3- Sometimes prisoners are referred by the court for psychiatric opinion.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">It also includes the rendering of psychiatric opinions about the persons referred by any court of law.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">Substance Abuse &amp; Detoxification<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">BIPBS has established a separate Substance Abuse &amp; Detoxification center and providing complete services to drug abuse patients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">Child &amp; Adolescent Psychiatric Services<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">BIPBS has specialized doctors for Child and Adolescent psychiatric services and there is a special ward regarding these services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">Community Mental Health Services<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">To lead the changes outlined in National Plan for Mental Health, several demonstration projects were set up by the Institute of Psychiatry, Quetta, which are the WHO and UNICEF collaborated.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tele-Medicine System on Gender Based Violence Supported by WHO<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">MHPSS Supported by UNICEF<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Institute of Psychiatry is the only facility for providing mental health services in Balochistan.
