EMDR Training

As instructed by Dr Derek the number of participants should be 12-15 if there are two trainers in training. If more than two trainers in training are conducting the workshop or if facilitators are also present then the number of participants can be increased.

Manual will be provided by Dr Derek P.Farrell

The training days will be 3/4.

As per the requirement of EMDR -Pakistan the participants should be psychiatrists ,psychologists and mental health professionals of at least three year experience.

EMDR -Pak Committee will go over the CV of the candidates before selecting them for the training.

Attendance in all the days of the training is compulsory.

The participants will not be eligible to sit in Part-2 of the training unless they have performed EMDR on two separate clients under the supervision of their allocated facilitator/trainer.

Part-2 will be conducted by Dr Derek P.Farrell in January 2019.Venue of the Part-2 will be decided by EMDR-Pak committee at a later date.

Visit of Child Protection OIC UNICEF

Ms Silvia Pasti Chief Child Protection OIC UNICEF, Ms Farrah Ilyas Cheif Protection Specialist UNICEF and Ms Bushra have visited Balochistan Institute of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (BIPBS), Quetta on 10th August 2018 to discuss and observe available Psychological Services for Child Protection at BIPBS.

General Psychiatry

General Psychiatry considers manuscripts on all aspects of psychiatry, including neuroscience and psychological medicine. Both basic and clinical neuroscience contributions are encouraged.

Old Age Psychiatry

Old age psychiatrists provide specialist and holistic assessment, treatment and ongoing care for older people experiencing mental health problems such as dementia, personality disorders and schizophrenia.

Community Mental Health Services

To lead the changes outlined in National Plan for Mental Health, substantial demonstration projects were set up by the Institute of Psychiatry, Quetta, with joint efforts of WHO, UNICEF, UNHCR, UNDP and other national and international agencies. Tele-Medicine System on gender-based violence and MHPSS are subsidized by WHO and UNICEF respectively.

Psychiatric Emergencies & Liaison Referrals

The Institute also provides the services for the liaison cases from other departments of all the hospitals affiliated with Bolan Medical College and it also looks after the patients referred through emergency department for psychiatry evaluation.

Forensic Services
  • BIPBS has established a jail ward in it’s premises for forensic psychiatric services.
  • BIPBS provides mental health care facilities for the prisoners of Quetta Central Jail and Mach Jail, our medical officers visit the prison with regularity, every two weeks the convicts with psychiatric complaints are inspected in the jail; moreover, if asked by a court, the convict is inspected by a specialist.
  • Sporadically, psychiatric opinions are entreated by the court regarding the prisoners’ mental stability, ultimately the prisoners are scrutinized.
Neuropsychiatric Facilities

The Institute is well equipped with the facilities of electro-convulsive therapy (ECT) and electro-encephalography (EEG).
